Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Buffalo NY

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que made it’s way from Rochester to Buffalo, and vegetarians have nothing to fear.

Now when the meat-lovers want to get BBQ, vegetarians can finally enthusiastically agree!

BBQ joints aren’t going anywhere. We vegetarians are just going to have to live with that. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, however, is unlike others because instead of offering up just a meat free-side, they’ve actually accommodated dishes for vegetarians. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been to a BBQ place that has actually accommodated to my lifestyle!

Enter the Vegetarian B.B.Q. portion of the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que menu. It’s small, but it’s there, and I’m plenty grateful for it! On the particular day I was there, the Smoked Broccoli Rueben with BBQ sauerkraut, swiss cheese, and BBQ mayo sounded better than the F.G.T.V. (Fried Green Tomatoes, pimento cheese, shredded cabbage topped with Chow-Chow and BBQ mayo), so I went with that.

Smoked Broccoli Rueben

Believe it or not, it actually works! I was skeptical, but the flavors and textures really do work! I ordered the Smoked Broccoli Rueben with the Mini Iceberg Wedge with Bar-B-Blues Dressing and the entire thing was super filling. It didn’t stop me from eating the free slice of Chocolate Icebox Cake I got for it being my birthday (I don’t know where they got their recipe, but that was no icebox cake–delicious though), but it should have.

One of my other vegetarian friends ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer which was delicious as well. Not too greasy, the batter kept together, the texture was great and the flavor was excellent; I’ll certainly be trying the F.G.T.V next time because of it.

There were plenty of cocktail options, beer selections, and a few wines to choose from. Definitely enough to please a large party. Our server was great and very attentive to our large group, getting everything correct and even splitting up the checks amongst us (it’s amazing how few places will do that nowadays?), timing the food perfectly and smiling all the while; she was fantastic! I’m not certain how long the wait was on a Tuesday night for our group of ten since I showed up much later, but while we sat enjoying the patio, we could hear dozens of other parties names being called over the speaker system for their tables until about 8:00 when they were seating immediately again.

Overall, it was a great experience. I’m glad Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is another option for my meat loving friends in this fine city, and I’m even happier that it welcomes my kind!
